Picture quality and reliability are two of the key features that helped make the DSR-PD150P such a phenomenal success – widely regarded as the de facto standard for professional 3CCD compact camcorders since its launch in 2000.
The DSR-PD170P builds on this success with improved audio-video performance, as well as a host of ergonomic and operational improvements – specifically developed in response to customer requests. A wide conversion lens (VCL-HG0758) and a new hood are also bundled in with the camcorder, which will be priced identically to the DSR-PD170P to ensure great value-for-money. The camcorder’s body has also been subtly restyled with a new two-tone body colour.
Video Audio improvements
The minimum illumination specification is improved from 2lx to 1lx due to an improved signal processing.
The audio quality for manual recording is improved by 6dB (S/N Ratio) due to enhancements to the audio processing circuit.
Operational Improvements
An on-handle zoom lever and rec. start/stop button have been added to make the camcorder much easier to control during low-angle shooting. (Zoom speed can be switched between faster, slower and off via a slide switch on the side of the handle.)
A new design handle is larger and reshaped to make for an easier grip.
A larger size viewfinder makes for more comfortable viewing, with an enlarged window size for the magnifier and even the eye-cup.
A precision, 200,000 pixel hybrid LCD panel makes it much easier to monitor picture quality, even in direct sunlight.
Simultaneous turn-on of LCD panel and viewfinder enables a user to control the focus using the viewfinder, while using the LCD panel for setting the camera angle.
Iris control is improved with a doubling of control steps from 12 to 24 for a smoother, more sensitive response.
